Snapline overview

Snapline is a native macOS screenshot and screen-recording app that lives in the menu bar. It captures regions, windows, and whole displays; stitches long pages into one tall image while you scroll; records the screen to H.264 MP4 and converts recordings to GIF; annotates with a re-editable vector toolset; and OCRs every capture on device so screenshots can be searched by the text inside them.

Built with Swift and AppKit — not Electron; the DMG is about 5 MB. No account, no cloud: license keys activate offline, captures and OCR never leave the Mac, and there is no analytics or telemetry. Choose what the text index keeps

A new privacy setting — Index text in screenshots, in Settings → History, on by default — governs what text recognition keeps, never what it can read.

Off purges the index: the background indexer stops, and every recognition record already stored — text, code payloads, cached translations — is deleted behind a confirmation that states exactly how many entries it covers.
Everything still works: Copy Text, the Text window, code detection, and translation read the capture on demand and keep nothing. History search falls back to filenames and dates, and the empty state says so.
Nothing is lost but the stored text: re-enable the setting and your captures are indexed again, automatically.
